One lazy summer day, I decided to stop in a brightly colored thrift store on the way to my boyfriend's house. It was so overwhelmingly messy and cluttered that I almost had a panic attack (people that know me, know this isn't far from the truth)! I decided to wade through the piles anyway, and I ended up with some great milk glass vases for only .25 a piece. This was the beginning of my interest in milk glass...
Milk glass has been around since the 16th century, but it has only been called "milk glass" since the 20th century. I learned a lot about this lovely glass on the Collectors Weekly website, which you should all check out if you get a chance! Once I realized how cute these white glass pieces looked, I decided to get more and work it into my decor. I now have several vases, compote pieces and a hobnail lamp that I love! One place I can always find great milk glass pieces that fit my design aesthetic is Etsy. Here are some of my favorites:
Well, I hope you all enjoy milk glass as much as I do! If you want to be a super-collector, you could always join the National Milk Glass Collectors Society :)
I absolutely love this post! Thank you so much Kristi..... I am an unofficial collector of milk glass, as well. I always thought it was pretty, and I picked up my first vases at a garage sale for quarters, as well.
ReplyDeleteOK, that lamp is to die for!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post Kristi!
Thanks you guys! Glad you liked it :) It was something that was on my mind, so I thought I'd write about it (and do some shopping at the same time)
ReplyDeleteThat lamp is indeed pretty great. I was excited when I stumbled upon it because it's very reasonably priced!
Kristi, this is great! And not just because you kindly featured my milk glass.
ReplyDeleteSlowly I have been replacing all my clear glass bowls, vases, and whatnot with milk glass because etch marks and water deposits do not show up as badly. There is something simple and elegant about it - as is this post! Thank you for sharing! You made my day!
Kristi, this is a great round up! Love them all. XX
ReplyDeleteThe one with the pumpkins is perfection. Love this!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot Kristy for this post, you made me discover milk glass !! I love the cake stand!
ReplyDeleteI do love this team and love getting to know my teammies better.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really great post Kristi, I too am a lover of milk glass. I've collected a few odd and end pieces over the years and really enjoy their many uses!
