Talkin' Tuesday - Meet Julie from Newberry!

Here's Julie making a dotted rolling pin!

Here are 9 Fierce Facts about Julie and one line is completely fictional.  Get involved by guessing which one of the 10 items listed below is the impostor. Put your comments below to test your sleuthing skills!  The fictional statement about Julie will be posted next Tuesday when I feature the next CN Teammie. See below for the false fact about last week's featured teammie, Melinda.

1. I am fiercely shy, I am convinced a person can die from embarrassment so I do improv with an extroverted LA actor... agonizing fun and cheaper than therapy.

2. One part of my business is developing serving pieces for restaurants, green ones particularly seek out Newberry Furniture and Kitchen Accessories, or Newberry FaKA, just trying out a new acronym.  Our most popular online item: pizza peel and pizza knife.

3. A documentary was made about building our house (we physically built much of it ourselves and it’s green). It’s called Styrofoam House on YouTube. Basically we built it out of giant Legos later filled with concrete, it’s LEED certified and energy efficient.

4. As a frustrated foodie, I wrote a cookbook about friendship and northern Italian cooking about Stella Cinque, her name means Five Star. She would always say, "Because I am the best!"

5. I thirst for knowledge, so I attend beer school. I didn’t get enough credits to graduate this Spring. I'm going back in the Fall, at least the homework is no burden.

6. In the 80s, I was a pop star, Julie Sparkles and sang in shopping malls with my big hair, shoulder pads and pushed up sleeves. Alas, a one hit wonder.

7. I was an associate producer of a movie two years ago, probably a concession because my house was the movie set, 80 hours of filming, 4 cast members, 40 crew members, plus the making of the movie staff. It was 2 weeks crammed into 5 days.

8. Completely landlocked, I live within one hour from the geographic center of the country, St Louis (at least that's what National Geographic reported). According to the FBI, it’s the most dangerous city in the nation, which makes no sense to me. Someone is lying about my city, when I find out who your are, I’ll cut you.

9. Bill and I won an award for having a sustainable business and we didn’t know green was a thing. We didn’t want to waste wood. We are really tree career counselors, example: storm felled tree, you get up and be a chair, now get to work.

10. I have used power tool for 13 years. Power tools and marriage requires healthy communication. I am still boy crazy for Bill. We started our business and got married the same year. Love is like that, goofy.

*******Last week's false fact about Melinda from Melindamilkshake was this one: #6 Melinda does not study psychology and anthropology.  She studies comparative religion and anthropology, the rest of the statement is true. ***

  1. Julie, I went to 'Beer School' too! I should probably take the classes again with you in the Fall as I don't remember much of it other than I was an excellent taste tester.

I adore your spirit and am so thrilled you sought out CN! Now, being the foodie that you are, if you wanted to make me a pie with the above rolling pin, I wouldn't object.

  2. Hi Julie! It's so great to learn more about you! I have to say, #8 made me laugh out loud, but I'm going to go with #6 as the false fact. Although, if it's true I want to see video!! :)

  3. Oh Geez...um, I think I'm going with Julie Sparkles! It reminds me of a skit from "How I Met Your Mother". Plus...you're shy! I think...

And Melinda! I knew you studied anthro from a news article on a google search so just assumed it was alllll true...tricksy ;)

  4. I want to go with the Julie Sparkles too, mainly because you said you were fiercely shy. Can't see a shy person singing in the Mall. But just because everyone said that too it's probably not the one!

  5. Wow this is great stuff! Highly entertaining and funny! What a great sense of humor you have Julie.

I'm going to have to guess that you were not an 80's pop star. If you were, that would be awesome! .. But you're already awesome enough. ; )

P.S. Sorry, .. I got so tricky (tee hee hee).

  6. You are sooooo interesting! So fun! I'm going with number 6 cause it's eerily similar to Robin's character on How I Met Your Mother who was a Canadian Pop Star, Robin Sparkles. If this is true then perhaps this is where HIMYM got the idea for that episode...and I want to see a video!

So great to learn more about you! : )

  7. It is always so amazing to read all these posts!! In comparison, my life seems dull. XD

Because everyone is going for Julie Sparkles, I'm going to pick the opposite - #1, that you are fiercely shy. :P I am rebellious like that hahaha.

  8. I loved reading these, Julie! So funny! I also am going to go with #6 because of the shy thing, though Alex makes an interesting point ^^^!

  9. omg, you are cracking me up! I particularly like your puns in #5 :-D Since I like that one so much, I am not going to guess that that is the false fact. I like #6 for that. But if I'm wrong, and you really were Julie Sparkles, I want to see a picture!!!!

It's so fun to meet you Julie! I love your work, I love that you put felled trees to work (lazy things), and I love that you are committed to sustainability in your work and in your life.

  10. How lovely to meet you Julie, what an interesting life you've had so far, or is it really?!!

I'm torn, you're sporting such a huge smile in all of your photos so you don't appear shy, yet you don't look old enough to have been an 80's pop star...hmmm

  11. FINALLY...I got myself logged in...YAY!!
Thanks Yo for trying to help!!

Very nice to meet you Julie!! What an interesting life...no matter what's false.

I'm going with #1. I'm a fellow shy person and I would never get in front of an audience (unless they were all under 4" tall ; )

  12. I'm looking everywhere to find some pictures from the 80s ...

  13. My teammates make me feel so BORING!!! HAHA. I love the part about doing improv. I hope that's true :)

I'm going to guess 8 is false because of the part about St. Louis being the most dangerous city. I can't imagine any place being more dangerous than Detroit (or even Memphis!). Though I have always heard when you cross the river into East St. Louis, there are cops around to tell you that you need to get the hell out. haha
